Only three guidance counselors, five special education teachers, and other positions may be funded. several roles will not be hired, with deficits looming in substitute pay. Fire damages Connecticut College dorm as three firefighters hurt
A Monday blaze at Connecticut College for Women's Freeman and Jane Addams dormitories damaged the top floor and roof of the four story building. Three firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation. Over 100 firefighters from 14 towns battled the fire aided by pumpers from Waterford due to low water pressure. The blaze took about two hours to control with no immediate reports of fatalities. Police planned guard duty to prevent looting. Names of injured firefighters were Robert Nemma, Robert Nelson, and John Marshall.

Cured Smokers to Meet Tonight in Bridgeport
The free five day Stop Smoking program sponsored by the National Health Foundation and Seventh-day Adventist related groups will host an alumni meeting at the YMCA auditorium on Golder Hill Street in Bridgeport at 7 30 p m. Nearly 200 attended the first seminar in the Greater Bridgeport area with 90 percent reporting complete cessation or drastic reduction. The follow up aims to offer moral support and encouragement for those who stopped or are close to stopping.
