Police officer confesses hold up of Viking express
Chicago Feb 1 A police officer, two railroad employees, and a citizen confessed to the December 20 hold up of the Viking express train on the Chicago and Northwestern line. Russell S. Dickey, the express messenger, was killed. Bernard P. Smith, Ralph Norra McKee, Bernard J. Smith, Bernard Mylin, and Edward Smith were charged. Ed Smith and Mylin planned the crime. Smith waited with the loot car. The pistol used was German made, shipped to New York, then to Chicago. Police traced the group from confessions and recovered silver plates from Smith’s home.
