Debt problem discussed by Columbia professor in Pittsburgh
Professor Edwin R. A. Seligan of Columbia University warned in Pittsburgh that reducing naval armament and adopting a budget system will not curb postwar expenditures. He argued debt service remains a major immediate issue and criticized Allied debt to the United States, urging economy without sacrificing efficiency and noting risks of bankruptcy if wartime profits and debts are mishandled. He recalled the first water mill in the United States, built in 1834 on the Neponset river in Dorchester, New England.
