Living costs rise in November with broad inflation

The Labor Department reports a 0.3 percent rise in consumer prices in November with increases in most categories except food. Wholesale prices also edge up while medical costs surge. The CPI stands at 117.8, about 2.8 percent higher than a year earlier, as December could bring further gains.

UN Extends Cyprus Peacekeeping Force Three Months

The UN Security Council unanimously extended the Cyprus peacekeeping mission for three more months. Secretary-General Thant said he would coordinate with contributing nations to keep the 4,700 troops in place. Milford Catholic Leader Dies After 36 Years As Pastor

The Rev. Dennis F. Moran, 86, longtime pastor of St. Mary's Milford, who guided the parish through its growth including a 1955 church and school complex, died in a Milford hospital after a long illness. Ordained 1910 in Hartford, he earlier served at St. Francis New Haven and St. Thomas Waterbury.

Vietnam Veteran Struck in Milford Hit-and-Run

A 19 year old Vietnam veteran named Gordon L. MacLachlan, living on Green Hill Road, Milford, was hit by a westbound car on the Boston Post Road at 6 42 p m Friday and left at the scene. He was taken to Milford Hospital for emergency surgery and remained in critical condition. Police questioned two witnesses as they sought to identify the vehicle. MacLachlan had just returned from Vietnam and planned to resume work at Amity High School. Milford police logged a total of one accident in a six hour period from 3 13 p m to 9 20 p m Friday.
