Savings for Christmas Tied Up as Bank Fails
Boston December 18 The doors of the Old South Trust Company closed in May with about 4 million dollars in deposits. The bank commissioner said depositors can be paid in full eventually leaving a substantial amount for stockholders. An estimated 1000 members of the Christmas Savings club hold about 400 thousand dollars in aggregate. Some have already received checks but most held theirs for last minute purchases.

Derby mayor vetoes school site purchase decision
Derby December 18 Mayor George P Sullivan vetoed the board of aldermen from selecting the Goxrer site for the new Second ward grade school. Overriding would require a two thirds vote seen as unlikely as the board stands. The board of education plans to buy the Gaynor site for 32000 dollars despite mayor and alderman. The total appropriation for the site and school is 80000 dollars.
