Research urged to boost Connecticut economy

Fairfield county business and industry leaders told a Connecticut Research Commission forum at the Westport New Englander that research and development are key to growth. They called for better education, faster industry university collaboration, and reviews of laws hindering industrial programs to translate science into jobs.

Elm City Sailor Hurt By Shell Explosion

Seaman James Robert Hooks of New Haven was notified by the Pentagon as one of three crewmen burned when a shell exploded aboard the destroyer Manley off Vietnam. Cooks was reported in good condition after a flash fire from the blast. He is the son of James R. Hooks of Brookside Avenue, New Haven.
