Panel Explains Job Opportunity and Civil Rights Concerns
In Hartford a Civil Rights Law question arises if an employer must hire a man for a job requiring traveling with a male supervisor. Sonia Pressman from the EEOC says it could violate the law. The Connecticut Council on Equal Employment Opportunity held a five hour meeting with new chair Stephen Shulman and J. William Jones named head of the state council. He succeeds Richard Stewart. Shulman notes progress in training but cites Fairfield County gaps with minority representation in 21 large companies at 6 percent and only 1.4 percent in managerial roles.
