Five Big Packers Accused of Antitrust Violations
Formal complaints were issued by the Federal Trade Commission charging five major Chicago meat packers with violating the Clayton act through control of 31 food and supply companies. The action targets alleged absorption of meat packers, fruit canners, dealers in oils and poultry, butter and cheese makers, and leather tanners, with related entities like United Tagess Beet Company, Western Meat Company of San Francisco, and Nevada Packing Company named in the probes. The suit asserts that Cudahy Packing organized Dow Cheese, gaining control of over 200 Wisconsin cheese factories and neighboring states, and cites interlocking directorates under the Clayton law.

Berkman and Goldman to be sent to Soviet Russia
New York December 4 Alexander Berkman and Emma Goldman anarchists will be deported to Soviet Russia rather than to Kolchak’s white guards, according to counsel Harry Weinberger who cited telegraphs from immigration and State Department officials. He warned that deportation to Kolchak would mean immediate death and said he would pursue habeas corpus to stop deportation. Goldman travels by train to face deportation before dawn while Berkman roams the city in a purple limousine, noting shoes are scarce in Russia.
