The War Labor Board approved a broad wage award fixing minimums of 42 cents for most male workers over 18 and 22 cents for women, with equal pay for women doing the same work as men. The plan sets an eight hour day, union rights, and retroactive raises to May 1 for several plants, with back pay by October 1 1918. Some objection centered on wage classifications and the umpire Otto Hidlitz’s ruling.
