Science Discovers Bacteria To End Cactus Plague
ITHACA N Y August 1 Discovery of a bacteria is expected to curb the prickly cactus invasion damaging Australian farms. Cornell University scientists report lab tests show the organism can attack cactus while sparing other vegetation, turning infected fields into nutrient rich soil. The bacteria appears as a brown spot on the plant and spreads rapidly, potentially eliminating large areas of the pest in a decade.
