Wounded 102nd Infantry Men in French Offensive
Five Bridgeport men of the 102nd Infantry United States Army were wounded in the late July offensive in the Rheims-Soissons area, two badly. The unit, praised for bravery, helped capture villages and stores as American forces advanced. Private William F. Carr, 25, of 339 Broad Street, severely wounded July 23. Private Joseph Guccione, 401 Steuben Street, dangerously wounded. Private Lewis Williams, 202 Seeley Street, wounded. Corporal Joseph A. Kelly of 205 Seeley Street fell July 20. Sergeant Lewis E. Spiders Threaten Fairfield Beach Cottages
FAIRFIELD, Aug. 16. Brown backed spiders are appearing by the thousand in the cottages at Fairfield beach. Webs are found in dining rooms, bedrooms and on the porch. When brushed away and spiders expelled, new webs soon reappear. Experts say the spiders do no damage but many women are frightened by the long legged insects in the house.

Lieut Nagle Wins French Cross of War for Bravery
