Miss Maude Gilbert of Bridgeport and Walnut Beach drowned Thursday afternoon in the Miami trail canal. BE. T. White, a clerk, was held without bail after informing police of the auto plunge. Investigators found no evidence of foul play as divers continued searching the canal. The 32 year old and her last ride with a companion remained under inquiry.
Christy Mathewson, famed Giants pitcher and Baseball Hall of Famer, marked his 41st birthday in Saranac Lake after a long bout with tuberculosis. He enjoyed time with Mrs. Mathewson and Christy Jr, spoke of a hopeful recovery, and looked forward to fishing and occasional automobile rides as his health improves.
