Six senators six high caliber leaders named to sit on a select committee to weigh 46 charges against Joseph R McCarthy with aims to conduct a judicial style inquiry. A Western Air Lines plane carrying Adlai Stevenson and 15 others was struck by lightning at 14 000 feet above Lewiston Montana. The craft landed safely at Stapleton Field Denver after a two hour delay for repairs at Casper Wyoming. Stevenson, en route from Edmonton to Kansas City, remained calm but tired.

Druggist Placed Under Suspension in Bridgeport

A Bridgeport pharmacist Frank B. Oburchay had his license and store license suspended for six months by the Pharmacy Commission. He operated Barnum Pharmacy at 1840 Barnum Avenue and had prior liquor violations including selling liquor on Sundays and permitting consumption on the premises. He was fined 25 dollars in Bridgeport City Court and for liquor permits the state Liquor Control Commission also suspended his liquor permit for six months.

Kefauver Leads In Primary Fight In Tennessee

Sen Estes Kefauver led Pat Sutton 125993 to 53176 in the Democratic primary with about 30 percent of precincts reporting from 1360 of 2591. Gov Frank Clement topped Gordon Browning 147696 to 58659 as Republican Ray H Jenkins held a commanding lead for the Senate nomination.

Stratford Girl Found Camping Under Porch

Sydell Wallby ten year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Wallby of 8 Bedford court Stratford returned home last night after sleeping two nights under the porches of neighboring homes in the Woodend Homes project. Police said a neighbor saw her crawling under her porch and notified her parents. The child was angry because an older sister had gone away for a camp and decided to do her own camping for a few days.

Prospector Guilty in Slaying of Hunter Peace

Wil bert Coffin, a 43 year old Canadian prospector handyman, is convicted of murdering Richard Lindsey, 17, of Hollidaysburg Pennsylvania in the Gaspe wilderness. He is sentenced to hang on November 26. The jury of twelve reached the verdict in 34 minutes. Coffin showed no reaction as the sentence was announced.
