Westport m diving tragedy prompts safety device talk
A man died after a headfirst dive from a Compo Beach float in three feet of water prompting Frank Dayton to urge a warning buoy near the floats. He suggested a submarine buoy with large numerals showing depth to help beachgoers avoid shallow dives and reduce accidents. Traffic jams and a waterfront accident spree followed a heavy Sunday rush, with several arrests and injuries reported along the shore road and beach area.
