Heavy War Bills Loom in Senate This Week
Washington April 28 Prospects rise for passage of the Overman bill giving the President authority to reorganize government departments. The Senate aims to act on the draft law extension to age 21, draft quotas based on class one, the sedition bill, housing for war workers, and other measures. House plans include draft amendments, army expansion, and large appropriations including 30 million for concrete ships. Senator Gore moves to push minimum wheat price, while repeal of the German American Alliance charter is debated. A joint Senate House hearing on vocational rehabilitation for injured servicemen is set for Tuesday.

Liberty Subscriptions Disappointing In 1918 Loan Drive
New York April 27 Liberty Loan interest centers on public support while subscriptions lag among large holders due to anticipated income tax payments and rising costs. Railroads and industrials cut back, yet moderate-income subscribers increase. The piece contrasts strong patriotism and anticipated oversubscription with the slow response of wealthy investors amid wartime finance and government price regulation worries.
