Bridgeport GOP Alerdmen Seek 1-3 Mill Tax Cut
Bridgeport Republicans push a plan to reduce the city property tax by 1-3 mill. The move follows a state tax cut bill that passed the House and is expected to become law. If enacted, the current rate of 9.2 mills would drop to about 8.5 mills, saving the city around 79,000 dollars on the Grand List. A special council session is planned as aldermen weigh appealing to the mayor or Tax Board and await state action. The Tax Board’s role is pivotal in approving the reduction.

De Valera Proclaims Ceasefire and Peace Terms in Ireland
Dublin April 27 The Associated Press reports Eamonn De Valera and Chief of Staff Aiken call for a suspension of hostilities by Republicans against the State government and offer to negotiate peace on conditions. The proclamation outlines six principles including government authority from the people, free speech, and civilian rights, while urging Republicans to remain defensive and await a parliamentary decision. The action signals a potential path to peace but its practical effect is uncertain as British intervention remains possible if the people decide otherwise.
