Teachers Fight for Raise in Bridgeport Schools
The Bridgeport Board of Education favors a flat $200 raise for teachers this year, but the Department of Education says it is impossible within the current fiscal year. Superintendent Samuel J. Slawson told the Board of Apportionment in January that only the regular $75 increases were planned, as $16,000 for additional teachers' salaries was cut to reduce the tax rate. The Department is already under budget pressure, making funding for the raise unlikely this year.
