An eleven hour Milford Turnpike closure occurred after a Kneeland Trucking Co. vehicle from Springfield left the road and entered a brook. State police believe the driver slept briefly. the truck was removed by Smedley Wrecker Co. of New Haven, reopening traffic by 1 pm. The missing driver had not been found by nightfall.
In Asbury Park a fatal collision occurred when a car struck a Pennsylvania Railroad excursion train at Immonik en crossing. Miss Elizabeth A Griffen 23 of Eatontown and Olyes Milenaly 19 of Eatontown died. Alice Griffen 93 of Shrewsbury and Tyna Moore 27 of Nashville were injured. The car driver Mitchell was hurt minorly.
