Hydrogen Frozen and Liquefied in Government Test
Washington April 8 A small quantity of frozen hydrogen and about two quarts of the same element liquified were produced today at the bureau of standards in a successful test of liquefying apparatus conducted by Professor Kanolt. The process required cooling to near absolute zero with a temperature of 253 C below zero to liquefy the gas and 430 F below zero for the ice. The low temperatures were achieved by expanding the gas under 3000 psi. Hydrogen production will continue as part of the bureau’s study of materials at very low temperatures.
