American outposts north west of Toul repelled a dawn German raid as a corporal challenged the approaching force and guns opened. Heavy artillery duels continued all night with German shells surpassing recent totals while American batteries answered vigorously.
The Knights of Columbus in Bridgeport formed a Liberty Loan bond committee at a well attended meeting. George T. Kelly chairs with John J. Conway George Burns Dr W J A O Hara Thomas A Hearne James Leverty Dr A A McLaughlin Peter Davey Michael J Ford and Dr James F R Flynn as secretary. Over $21 000 was pledged at the gathering as the drive begins officially Thursday with details to be explained at a meeting on April 11 at 8 o clock.
