Berlin May 1 The wedding of Princess Victoria Luise only daughter of the German Emperor and Empress to Ernest Augustus of Cumberland was held in the Zaitheran chapel of the imperial castle. High dignitaries including William II Nicholas II and King George VI attended a civil ceremony earlier in the castle. The bride wore a silver brocade gown and a lace veil created by Silesian girls. Empress Augusta placed the crown, and the couple will honeymoon at Hubertusstock and Gumendon estates.

Battleships Sunk By Submarines Off Block Island Sound
Newport R I May 24 Eleven battleships of the U S navy Atlantic squadron were sunk in a simulated engagement with five submarines off Block Island Sound. The Wyoming flagship was struck by a dummy torpedo and foundered after the fleet mustered to quarters as fog and a dull sky covered the scene. One by one the ships were torpedoed and sank while submarines carried the honors of the exercise in Narragansett Bay.
