Bellefontaine March 25 A westbound Pennsylvania train No 3 plunged into the Mad River at the edge of West Liberty as heavy rains swelled the river washing away the bridge. The rear sleeping car fell to the bank. passengers escaped through windows and waded to shore. Conductor Philip Ham of Springfield swept into the river but reached a downstream bridge. Engineer James Wood and Fireman Chilton of Columbus jumped free and were only slightly hurt. Heavy washouts delayed aid as villagers attempted boat rescues amid rising waters.
