Local Elks Derby Baseball Derby Tomorrow

The annual Bridgeport and Derby Elks lodge baseball game is set for tomorrow in Derby with a 1 p m departure from the post office. A large Elk turnout and Wheeler & Wilson Band will travel by special cars and nearby factories will close for the event. Moving Day for Sheriff Vollmer in Bridgeport

Sheriff William Vollmer oversaw moving his household from South Norwalk to new quarters in the county jail building. He has lived in South Norwalk since 1874 and hopes Bridgeport will suit him, aided by friends there. His family includes Mrs. Vollmer and two sons, Deputy John W. Vollmer and Wallace. The two sons are baseball fans and supporters of the Bridgeport Wheeling team in West Virginia. Meanwhile two masked robbers robbed the church treasury of First Christian during a sermon in the pastor's study.

Murderer is forced into death chair at Auburn

Special from United Press. Giuseppe Nacco, condemned for killing Antonia Candiano at Niagara Falls, is strapped into the electric chair after an initial struggle. The Catholic chaplain offered a crucifix before the current of 1899 volts was applied, with two additional contacts needed to declare him dead. Nacco had left a wife and daughter in Italy years before.

Coroner Orders Investigation into King's Death

Coroner Wilson ordered an inquiry into the death of 17 year old John G. King center fielder of the Thunderbolts who died at Bridgeport hospital at 8 15 after being struck in the temple by a pitched ball during a New Haven game The accident ended his bright season at East Bridgeport and devastated Bridgeport High School and St Charles school friends The report details his late afternoon walk home his headaches his return to play the long fly and the fatal skull fracture and trepanning surgery before his death with no likelihood of arrest and the inquiry to be treated as a formality The tragedy says the New Haven players were shocked and expect to attend the funeral The article also lists marriage licenses issued later in the day

Alaska coal grab blocked by government order

Washington June 2 The Cunningham Guggenheim coal claims in Alaska valued from 100 million to 1 billion dollars were canceled by Commissioner Dennet with Interior Secretary Fisher's approval. The decision halts the Morgan Guggenheim bid to grab Alaska coal, restoring lands to public domain for later reentry. It cites prior prearranged plans to unite claims under joint use for claimants, with no actual coal mined on the tracts.
