Draft Rules to Exempt Defectives From Draft

Washington June 26 War Department officials unofficially suggest that exemption rules will be so rigid as to excuse few besides detectives. Active war service for those within age limits, classification of essential pursuits into a separate army, and investigations of dependent claims are outlined. Drafting of National Guard will precede full National Army organization, with aim of 150000 in France by autumn and 750000 total plus five more divisions. Regular army strength expected at 300000 or more, with 150000 yet to train and 25000 recruits to be obtained through draft.
