Patriotism and the Stomach War Cry
Herbert Hoover appeals to American citizens to practice voluntary food restraint to support WWI efforts. He cites European hunger under German and English food controls and contrasts American abundance with Central Powers’ shortages. Warnings come from Hale and a recent immigrant recounting cold winters due to fat shortages. Hoover urges self-imposed limits to avoid European-style rationing.
