Fairfield War on Mosquitoes Yields Favorable Results
The Fairfield Improvement Association reports successful drainage of marsh meadows last summer to eliminate mosquitoes. Contractors were paid 8,400 dollars from private town sources, with a five year post-drainage maintenance plan. Officials include Oliver G. Jennings and Col. Valerie Havard among about 200 members. A state bill to assume control of drained meadows was proposed but not enacted, plans to extend protections to other lands remain under consideration.

Fairfield Mosquito Drainage Efforts Cut Marsh Stingers
The Fairfield improvement association reports three mosquito species in the area. The malaria mosquito is unlikely to spread disease as long as local drainage keeps marshes calm. House mosquitoes breed around homes in trash and containers and travel little, so residents should remove stagnant water and rubbish to curb stings. The nutty Kipling line is cited as a warning, and efforts in nearby towns show drainage success.
