English Socialists Must Give Written Guarantee of Intent
London June 5 The National Seamen's and Firemen's union executive body adopted a resolution refusing to permit members to man any vessel carrying pacifists to Stockholm or Petrograd unless they sign a guarantee to insist on restitution for the damage and loss caused by German submarines to Allied merchant shipping. Recruiting of British subjects in Boston has begun with twenty one men enlisted.

Lighting Provisions Under 1917 Auto Law Take Effect
The 1917 auto lighting provisions take effect July 1 1917. Rules require forward lights to illuminate objects 150 feet ahead when moving and limit glare to under 3.5 feet high at 75 feet ahead. Lights must let drivers see within ten feet each side and ahead, and no spotlights toward approaching vehicles unless directed at the ground within 30 feet.
Lighting device tests set by Motor Vehicle Department
The Motor Vehicle Department under the Commissioner invites manufacturers to submit lighting devices for test. Devices will be filed and demonstrated for compliance with the law to obtain certificates. Tests are expected to finish and a list of approved devices should be published by June 11.
