Lassen Eruption Described as Geyser Action
Forest Supervisor W. J. Rushing reports Mount Lassen shows a 100 foot diameter ash covered cavity near a melting frozen lake. Water feeding heated fissures forces up ashes and mud, suggesting a new geyser similar to Bumpass Hell. Officials classify the event as geyser activity, not a volcanic eruption.
