Rival factions seek control of church property
In New Britain on August 10 four members of the Holy Trinity Greek Catholic Church petitioned Hartford county Superior Court for an injunction to stop Reverend Father Eugene Volkay from performing duties, alleging he is not properly ordained. The case, with opposing counsel Abe S Geduldig, centers on a church split dating to 1908 when Hungarian and Galician factions clashed, risking the validity of marriages performed by Volkay and seeking $2500 in damages. The petition, to be heard today in Hartford before Judge William S. Ney Geduldig, seeks protection of church property and continued services under police protection.

Lincoln Pennies Exhausted Amid Redesign Halt
Washington reports the new Lincoln pennies with the designer initials are exhausted from Treasury distribution. Newsboys and penny brokers rushed the sale outside the building as prices surged from a nickel to multiple pennies per coin. Secretary MacVeagh had ordered a halt after W D Brenner’s initials were deemed too prominent, halting coinage until new dies are issued, leaving many youths crestfallen at the loss of earnings.
