Jepce Williams of Galveston County Court says he will vote for ratification of the Santa Fe bond contract and a majority of the county commissioners agree. Since the county owns only a minority of stock, the Kopperl negotiated contract appears set for approval. The choice before the body is ratify or no road.
Money packages received at the Treasury department in Washington from yellow fever districts are disinfected with carbolic acid. A fearless lady counts most packages while others decline touching them. One worker fainted for three days after counting a yellow fever package.
The Caldwell Eagle praises Hon Wm. Thompson as the Democratic nominee for Senator and states its intention to support him. It also notes independent candidate Mr. Homan as a highly regarded gentleman who would be an able legislator if elected.
A large barbecue organized by the people of Seguine is set for September 16. State office candidates are expected to attend and address constituents. Speakers include Hon O M Roberts Gen Hammond Hons Schleicher and Ireland and Gov Hubbard.
The Brenham area expects one million dollars to be paid to cotton planters in Bryan and may reach nearly two million for cotton alone as an estimated 35,000 to 40,000 bales are shipped this season.
The paper in Texas has not changed name or owner since its establishment. Proprietor George Robinson, known as Item George, says that despite long ownership he remains confident and says publication is not the road to fortune.

In Austin county last week a Black man in custody for theft of a bell collar was shot by masked men. They rode away afterward. The Bellville Beacon denounces the deed as a shame and disgrace to the county.
