On October 7 in Arthur City a bar keeper Sam Morris and deputy sheriff Billy Caston were killed. Four suspects from Paris including Tom Johnson Tom Beatty Sam Burrell and Jeff Sholes were arrested and charged with the murders. They allegedly shot to obtain alcohol without paying. Partial confessions indicate Johnson Burrell and Sholes carried out the killings.
