Beat One Fair Wins Praise Across Community

The Beat One Fair unfolded on Thursday and Friday to warm, dusty then pleasant weather with a night shower. Large, orderly crowds praised diverse exhibits from gardens, sewing circles, and canning departments, while livestock and poultry impressed judges. Organizers A. H. Martin and Captain P. B. Berry steered a well run event, and a Red Cross lunch tent aided charity. Senator Vardaman spoke Friday on wartime stance, praising farmers and noting a missed call to buy Liberty Bonds. The mood was upbeat with plans for another beat fair in 1918.

Golden Wedding Celebration in Rankin County Miss

Mr and Mrs Greenwood celebrated their golden wedding at home on Creek in Rankin County, Miss. They married October 22 1867 after moving from Iowa 21 years ago. He served in the Civil War. The event drew 75 to 100 friends who shared a six course feast with turkey ham chicken and possum. A 10 pound cake from Iowa and many gifts were given, with entertainment by Mrs Knox McNair and words from E M Odom.
