Colored Red Cross organizes at Langford church

Mr C O Rouse, Mr Charlie Bethune, and Miss Ora Bethune led Langford Black residents at True Vine church on Sunday October 28 to form a Red Cross group. Twelve members paid a dollar each and will donate funds to aid soldiers. Rouse praised the Red Cross aims and urged support for the war effort. Miss Alice Alliston Dies After Typhoid Battle in Florence

Florence Mississippi November 6 1917 notices the death of Miss Alice Alliston daughter of Walter Alliston after a typhoid illness at Millsaps College she fell ill at the campus and after a relapse she died at home with Rev Watkins of Mil lsaps College officiating. The community calls for donations to two Jackson orphanages with railroads offering free cars on November 28 to collect food clothing and supplies. The piece lists many prize winners from Beat One Fair and urges subscriptions to the local newspaper, recounting awards in various farm and canning club contests and noting continued publication at a subscrip tion rate.

Alice Alliston Remembered In 1917 Tribute
