Western front artillery duels stretch from sea to the Woevre with sporadic infantry clashes as French try to push Germans from entrenched positions and Germans attempt to regain lost ground. Italian forces push toward Gorizia after capturing Monfalcone and Gradisca, cutting communications north and south of the town.
London reports German submarines active on June 10 sinking British torpedo boats Nos 10 and 12 off the east coast. Forty-one crew members were rescued as the two vessels vanished with about 30 expected losses from the 35 men per boat. No. 10 measured 244 tons at 26 knots, No. 12 253 tons at 26 knots. both built in 1906.
Italian troops advance toward Trieste with visibility of the city from hilltops near Monfalcone. Monfalcone near 20 miles away controls the main regional railway junction and serves as Trieste electrical supply center with major shipyards. Italians celebrate capturing Monfalcone by raising flags on a Venetian tower.
London officials confirm the German submarine was sunk. Six officers and 21 crew members were captured. Balfour also says future German prisoners in England will receive treatment identical to other German POWs.
Figures compiled at Copenhagen show that 15 Norwegian ships were torpedoed and 12 blown up by mines while Sweden lost six by torpedoes and 18 by mines. The data were forwarded to the Exchange Telegraph Company.

Washington officials settle on immigration prosecutions against Lieut Brauer and several sailors reported missing from the interned German auxiliary cruiser Prinz Hitel Friedrich at Norfolk if located in the United States. A midnight June 13 strike of 14,500 surface and elevated transit workers halted service after talks between officials and labor leaders. Police redeployed to protect car barns and power plants while 500 officers guarded key sites. Suburban service planned. 1,500 telephone operators were housed in hotels near downtown exchanges awaiting resolution.
Washington releases its latest note to Germany dated June 10 asking for guarantees that American lives and ships will be safeguarded on the high seas. The document, signed by Robert Lansing in interim, follows the Lusitania sinking and reiterates that the ship was unarmed and had no warning. It states the United States will act on humanitarian and legal grounds and invites Germany to present any evidence of inadequate inspections.
