The Brandon High School commencement was held Thursday night in the new building auditorium. The stage decorations used gold and black. J. W. Broom delivered the baccalaureate address, with diplomas awarded by Prof. K. M. Broom. Rev. W. J. Dawson and other officials attended as the class received its first diploma in the new building.

Drive For New Members Nets 233 Leading Farmers
The cotton membership drive by the Warm Bureau Cotton Association in Rankin County drew 223 leading farmers into the cooperative program. Road conditions slowed some outreach, but Quimmers Wave and other communities joined. more inquiries are expected. The county Farm Bureau now supports cooperative selling and buying, strengthening ties with the state organization.

Beloved Woman Passes Away at Home in Johns
Mrs. Jerry Chapman widow of the late Jo Chapman died at her Johns home after a long illness at age 72 or 73. A Methodist church member and devoted wife and mother she left grieving relatives including EK Chapman, Emma Yers, Joe Chapman, Ida Trinson, GBE Chapman and Woody Chapman. Funeral services were held at the Johns Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Grice officiating.

Berry Stuckey Dies In Mountain Creek Auto Crash
A nineteen year old, Berry Stuckey, son of CC E Stuckey, was killed when the car he drove fell from a bridge over Mountain Creek last Wednesday afternoon. The crash occurred as he was returning to the Laird home where he worked after visiting Mrs Laird. Death was instantaneous from a broken neck. The community extends sympathy to the Stuckey family, with pastor Rev Courtley officiating on Thursday. He leaves a father, mother, several brothers and sisters, and many friends.

Highly Esteemed Rankin Resident Dies at 85
J. R. Edwards, longtime Rankin County resident and Pelahatchie native, died at his home last Thursday at age 85. He was a Methodist church member and father of Dr. I Edwards of Canton and Dr. J R Edwards of Leesburg, Miss Ethel and Fontaine Edwards of Pelahatchie. Funeral services were held at the family residence with ministers Rev Dawson Rev Lipsy and Rev Wallace officiating. among mourners was R C Cooper of Morton, a war veteran.

The County Sunday School Convention scheduled for July 4th has been postponed due to bad weather and other reasons. I. O. Negro Hurt At Howie Mill Falls Fourteen Feet
Arnett Williams, a colored worker at Howie's saw mill north of town, fell about fourteen feet while on the job. He landed on his head, was knocked unconscious, and brought to town by truck. Dr. Hobson treated him after Dr. Watson was away. Williams rested well after a short time.

In Rankin County Justice of Peace J T Neely court Monday several Jackson business firms faced dumping garbage on the public highway charges. Three firms were convicted and fined while two cases were continued. W T Nichol Wholesale Co Huxley manager Hunt's Garage and Willard Battery Co were fined. Coca Cola Co and others cases were continued. Attorneys Harvey Thompson and Watkins Watkins represented the firms. A large crowd attended.

Families Change Residence in Past Week
Several families here have changed their places of residence in the past week. K. M. Broom and family moved to Jackson and will live in rented rooms. L. T. Suber and family moved into the Taylor home apartments vacated by the Broom. T. T. Cottrell, owner of Suber’s former house, has moved in. Prof. G. H. Sherrill now occupies the house vacated by Cottrell. If she vows she wouldn't marry the best man in the world, she's probably made up her mind to marry the sorriest one in the community.

Former Rankin County Man Dies in Louisiana
J. W. Hemphill returned from Georgetown Louisiana where he was called by the illness of his brother W. T. Hemphill who died on May 18. Born in Rankin County near Florence in 1856 he married Fannie Ford and lived in Louisiana since 1885 serving as Justice of the Peace. He was buried at Zion Church near Georgetown.
