Colored Teachers Institute Opens at Sylvarena in August

To the Colored Teachers of Rankin County an Institute will begin at Sylvarena Rural Schoolhouse Johns Miss on August 6 1917. All teachers who plan to teach should attend Johns for four weeks with a $3.00 entrance fee. Special attention will cover two new subjects. Prof A H Kersh invites teachers and references Mr H H Bullock Superintendent of Education for details.

Florence Notes on Local Baptist and Methodist Meetings

Florence notes describe the Baptist annual tracted meeting led by Rev. S. T. Courtney with sermons noted as interesting and impressive, closing on Saturday. The Methodist annual meeting begins on the eighth Sunday in August with Rev. Gatlin as preacher. Gatlin's address is not listed. Everett Steen, son of W. D. Steen, Florence, has drawn a number indicating service in the army.

Rankin County Suit Notices and Bids 1917

Chancery actions in Rankin County Mississippi command defendants to appear in Brandon on the fourth Monday in September 1917 to defend titles and acknowledges, with bids invited by the County Board for Aug 1917 supplies and bridge works, including oats corn and farm gear for multiple districts. Public notice states Roy L. Hogue files for timber and land in Choctaw Meridian under timber and stone law with appraisal of timber at 116 board feet per M and land at $148.00. Final hearing set July 28, 1917, before U. S. Land Office Register. Protest or contest allowed by filing affidavits. Additionally, J. M. Hughes and M. C. Hughes executed a deed of trust in Rankin County securing $5,750, with sale date August 6, 1917, by Purvis trustee, for property described as sections in Rankin County.
