Catamount attack leaves mother and child injured
In Finley, Washington county, a large catamount attacked two negro women and a child as they worked in Mr. W. F. McCormick’s plantation. The beast fatally wounded the child and seriously injured the two women before McCormick shot it twice in the head. The crowd watched as the animal, described as the largest seen in the Delta, was killed. Doctors say the women will recover, but the child did not survive.

Simpson County sells bonds for roads and school
The Simpson County Board of Supervisors sold a $40,000 road bonds issue at five percent interest bought by Dr Saunders of Laurel. The Mayor and Board of Aldermen sold an $8,000 school bonds issue to Commercial Bank & Trust Co of Laurel for $8,160 after nine bids. The agricultural high school contract went to A Dickson of Jackson for $7,545, the lowest responsible bid.

Stabbing by Gov Noel Leads to Rescue of Runaway Girl
A Jackson resident stabbed by Gov Noel is not the subject. A Louisiana Creole girl, age fifteen, ran from home to Jackson and stayed at a questionable hotel. A young man learned her age and origin, removed her from the rough hotel with a protest from a supposed chaperone, and notified Mrs. Richardson of the King's Daughters. The girl was placed in a good home by local women after officials intervened.
