Star Mississippi School Building Nears Completion
The twenty thousand dollar Star school building, under construction for months, is practically complete and will be occupied soon. It features seven large classrooms, a spacious auditorium with stage scenery, electric lighting and water works. Prof. A. B. McKay of the A. & M. College supervises campus work. The Star Literary Society, led by Lynton Cooper, Burnett Garrett and Miss Nora Edwards, shows strong programs. The Saarent-Teachers Association, led by Mrs. Pierce, reports high activity and enrollment. A campus picnic was held to prep for dedication exercises held Wednesday.

Laura Purvis Dies After Long Illness
Laura Purvis daughter of John and Kate Wortes died last Thursday after a long illness. She was a Black woman known for respect toward white people and helpfulness to them. She had been married to George Purvis but they were separated at the time of her death and she leaves two children, a boy and a girl.

School Building Nears Completion by January 20th 1928

Thanksgiving offering aids hospital for Old Soldiers Home
At the Methodist Church Thanksgiving services on November 30, a collection was taken to support the hospital to be built at Beauvoir for Old Soldiers. Major Patrick Henry sent a check, the Board of Supervisors pledged 100 dollars in the December meeting, to be sent after April 1, 1923.

Governor Wins Clean Verdict In Girl's Suit
Miss Frances C. Birkhead sued Governor Lee M. Russell for damages. The jury found for the defendant after a seven day trial with 34 witnesses. The verdict came 28 minutes after closing arguments. An appeal was indicated by Miss Birkhead's chief counsel.

Ford Car Strikes Buggy Near Owen's Shop
Last Monday evening about 4 80 o'clock Rob Henry drove a Ford into Mr. C A Dewees buggy at the corner near Owen's Shop. Both occupants were thrown out. Dewees badly bruised with possible serious injuries. Ada Dewees also injured. buggy torn to pieces. Henry rushed them to a local drug store where Dr. W H Watson treated them. Accident deemed unavoidable as Henry did not see the buggy in time.

Death claims one of few remaining old black mammies
One of Brandon's few remaining old black mam mies, Aunt Jane Finch, died last Saturday at her home after paralysis struck on Thanksgiving.
