The Rankin County Parent Teacher Association forms a County Council led by Mrs H H Simmons to boost school programs. Members include Mrs H H Ford, Mrs J B Williamson, Mrs Will Steen, Mrs S L McLaurin, and Mrs E Martin with plans to meet in September to organize activities for the new term.
A Brandon woman, Mrs Annie Champan, is named matron for the Mississippi Institute for the Blind Winter Session opening September 12. The faculty includes Florence Bouchillon, Anne Hart, Delia Yelverton, Julia Byrd, and others in music, literary, and industrial departments. Superintendent LT Batson, hospitalized in Hot Springs, Ark., hopes to return by September 28.
Rankin County farmers Tom and Berry Crain of near Brandon drove into Jackson Monday with two wagonloads of fine hogs. They found a ready market and a good price. The Crains are industrious farm boys known for thrift and had ample crops and livestock to sell.
Greenfield hosted the Quarterly Conference with Mt Carmel and Monterey churches represented and many city attendees including Rev W J Dawson J A Lind sey and Mr Mrs Jim Williams A large noon lunch followed and M L Burton presiding Elder delivered three informative sermons after business. A sizable crowd attended this lively session amid reflections on living costs and fashion trends of the era.

Hundreds converted and residents pledged renewed family altar devotion as Hon. George Ware directed Sunday music. Waltermire left for Woodville to organize another choir.
Pelahatchie Ku Klux Klan made its first public appearance at the Shiloh Camp Meeting on Friday night. About twenty white robed Klansmen entered the tabernacle in single file and paused before the pulpit. A minister read an envelope titled Open and read detailing the group’s principles. The other envelope held 50 dollars presented to Rev. J. O. Hanes. The Klansmen sat in the rear and left after the service.
In the Mississippi second primary, Rankin County candidate Henry L. Whitfield won with 132,789 votes, a lead of about 18,000 over opponent Bilbo who had 115,123 out of 247,912 total.

Located by Hattiesburg Police Monday afternoon after a 60 mile bicycle trip from Vicksburg to Richton. Returned to Owner. They left Vicksburg at 4 30 and reached Jackson by 12 30, traveling on gravel or asphalt roads.
W E McclIntyre's Ford stolen in Jackson weeks ago found last week in Rich ton. Chief T O Watkins of Hattiesburg located the car. L M Cunningham alias L M Cinthira of Bogalusa La charged with stealing it with four others. Cunningham was captured last week and returned to Bogalusa but will face trial in Hattiesburg. The car is now in Mr. McIntyre's possession.
Mayor Walter A. Scott of Jackson announces Jeff D. Dixon as assistant chief of police in an official order issued Friday. Dixon, a Rankin County native reared near Greenfield, has spent many years on the force and his promotion reflects his efficiency and community ties.
Pelahatchie High School will open Monday September 3 with Prof. A. B. Curry as principal. A splendid corps of teachers has been selected for the ensuing session and it is believed to be one of the best terms in the school’s history. Assistants include Miss Boling Lewis Parnell Waldrup and Lindsey.
Tuesday morning marks the formal opening of Brandon High School in its new building. Prof R B Steen and assistants lead an orderly program followed by class assignments and a long term of study as the faculty fosters school spirit for a successful year. Ida Jones, described as colored, asserts she will keep her large family in the South and believes in staying rather than migrating North.
Rankin County records an unofficial tally with Whitfield leading Governor’s race at 2045 to 879 for Bile and Holton 1649 over Garner 1087 for Agriculture. Ware 1176 over Myers 1175 for Representative while Beat 3 Denson wins. Beat 4 Knight 333 over Till 350. Beat 5 Harris 297 with Jackson 376. Countywide tension peaked as aggressive campaigning dominated the second primary.
The P T A announces Mrs. Harry G. Matthews of Jackson Mississippi as corresponding secretary to handle forthcoming literature including the Hand Book of Information. Local presidents urged to report new officers to Mrs Matthews promptly to ensure proper distribution.

R. N. Dixie McAllister, a respected colored citizen of Vicksburg, born and raised in Brandon, has served the postal department over twenty years. Recently promoted to a mounted carrier, the only one in the city, he delivers mail on foot and serves All Saints College and the surrounding suburbs.
