Death in the Pulpit at Crystal Springs Revival

J P Phillips, a Crystal Springs resident, recounts a revival at a Polkville Baptist church where Rev Bozeman allegedly foretold his own death while preaching. Bozeman collapsed and died, shocking mourners as Sutey conducted the burial in Meridian. The incident is noted as a rare premonition of death. Also announced are Mississippi U D C scholarships for descendants of Confederate figures, to be awarded to I I C and Millsaps institutions after Sept 17, with eligibility verified by Daisy McLaurin Stevens.

Cotton Picking Machine touted by Greenville capitalists

Bolivar County Democrat reports capitalists in Greenville are manufacturing a cotton harvester claimed to pick about 5 000 bales per day, five rows at a time, catching open bolls. The Mississippi Cotton Harvester Co is hoped to be a success. The piece condemns the goading of the enslaved laborer and argues for replacing labor with machinery, noting labor costs and debt temptations among workers. The Greenville machine, tested by inventor Geo H Zempter, is described as a bonanza for manufacturers.

Certificates Granted by I. J. & C. for Attendance

On September 7 the county superintendent of education will award certificates of attendance to deserving applicants from the above colleges. Boys draw for a scholarship in A. & M.C. while girls must take examinations if applications exceed the quota. S. R. Myers, Supt.

Teacher Examinations Dates for White and Colored Staff

Examinations for white teachers are scheduled on September 6 7 and 20 21. Examinations for colored teachers are set for September 13 14 and 27 28. Superintendent R Myers and examiners C Chapman and Mrs Barksdale will oversee.

Notice to Rankin County Baptist churches

Daniel J. Miley clerk asks churches to report back after blank letters were mailed. The note urges full responses for needed information. The second item from J. T. B. Berry advertises a Brandon home on about 12 acres with 8 acres pasture, water, near school and churches, inviting applicants seeking favorable advantages.
