Miss Margaret May Dies After Illness Near Dobson
Miss Margaret May died at her family home near Dobson after a 41 day illness from typhoid fever. She was 20, youngest child of Anse May and Rosa Steen May, recently returned from Radnor College in Nashville. A bright young lady, she leaves a mother, five brothers and two sisters. Rev. Bryan Simmon officiated the funeral on Saturday at the family burial ground.

Proclamation Offers Reward for Isaac McLaurin
Gov Noel issues a $100 reward for Isaac McLaurin, alleged killer of Jose Brown in Florence around August 1. Isaac and his brother Arche are linked to the stabbing after a quarrel, with Arche charged as accessory and bound over. McLaurin, described as 19, about 5'8", brown, 150 pounds, known as a hard character, previously accused of injuring another man with a rail at the same spot.

Maj Gen Robert Lowry issues General Order No 58 announcing the annual encampment of the Mississippi division United Confederate Veterans in Greenwood on October 7 and 8. Local camps must name delegates with one delegate per twenty members, and dues should be sent to the adjutant general at Brandon.

Rankin County School Board Kept And Reorganized In 1908 Session
Rankin County School Board convened August 17 1908 at the county superintendent office. The board continued Armstead and OBarrow schools for the upcoming term while deferring final action on Mt Pleasant and Chapman colored schools. A petition by John Renfro et al to establish a new white school was granted with territory detailed, and sections reassigned to Henry Grady school. A request to move Farrar colored school one acre west was approved after land deed terms. The meeting adjourned with J C Berry noted as clerk.
