Jennie Ment, daughter of the Ryan hotel proprietor in St Paul, disappeared a few days ago and has since married a mulatto who once worked for her father. She reportedly chose the first offer rather than remain unmarried.
L. F. Haven of the Cleveland Plaindealer testified before the House Ways and Means Committee urging retention of protective duties on lead ore. He argued wage reductions would follow if duties were cut, noting miners seek protection only for their own interests while advocating free trade for others.
The Burlington Route promotes goodwill by providing its Peerless Diving Cars on through trains with lavish meals served by trained waiters. The message urges buying tickets on this line and offers contact for routing questions with W. J. C. Kenyon, General Passenger Agent, B and N Railway, St. Paul.
The September term opens with Judge Holland. Indictments are returned against Henry Jackson for murder in the first degree and Hum Wing Sing and Hum Hong. The grand jury audits the county jail and condemns the city lock-up for filthy, unhealthy conditions and insufficient facilities.
The Little Falls Transcript argues against confirming an Illinois man to succeed Maj. Ruffee as Indian agent at White Earth, calling the move a political job. It praises Ruffee, lists Minnesota Democrat contenders, and urges residents to leave harness orders with D W Whitford on Laurel Street.
A local dispatch urges customers to leave orders for fine artistic job work claiming unmatched quality and service.
As we go to press a fire roars through the Patek building at the corner of 6th and Laurel, where Chas. Kinkele's saloon occupies the lower floor. The blaze started in a bedroom above the saloon. water pressure improved to a strong level, and the owners have full insurance. The fire is expected to be extinguished with minimal loss.
The season starts Monday with the strong attraction Friends a comedy drama praised in St. Paul and Minneapolis last season and now touring. Edward Boyle Selena Fetter Boyle and Lucius Henderson star with a largely unchanged cast from prior engagements and solid piano work by Henderson.
A special Board of Education session with all members present except McKay and Malle hears committee reports. Miss Lewis declines assistant principal post. her successor referral goes to teachers committee. Bonds from First National Bank are received and mutilated for cancellation. Various committees and payments are approved, and a dedication committee for new school houses is named. An adjacent note covers livestock enclosure plans and low Minneapolis exposition fares by the Northern Pacific.
