Brainerd residents hear about court activity travel and visits as local people resume work on the Y M C A excavation and prepare for Memorial Day events. Circuits of circus posters fill town while city officials address fire limits and billboard restrictions.
The Hartley residence on Beach Street will soon have plastering work begun. The structure is one of the handsomest in the city and architect O. G. Traphagen earns praise for the flawless plans.
Saturday evening the Y M C A Auxiliary presents an entertainment at the opera house to raise funds for furnishing the Y M C A building. Admission is 25 cents and the programme includes piano duet, select readings, vocal duets and solos, a flute solo, and an orchestra overture.
A Brainerd-bound five year old, Johnnie Mahr, was found on a train after a passenger conductor spotted him. He lived in Brainerd and was traveling west to “grow up with the country.” Agent Tull secured police to find his parents, the boy was fed, and he was sent home on a freight train. He had five cents and marbles.
The body of 28 year old Joe Bordelean, unmarried, was recovered from Stony Brook after a logging accident with Gull River Co. He vanished while working in dead water, went to the bottom, and was held under water for about twenty five minutes. His brother E Bordelean accompanied the remains to Noka Sebie for burial.
The text debates city obligations under the Water Power Company ordinance about maintaining thirty five pounds per square inch pressure and notices during fires. It mixes in theater ads for Clair Patee Company at Sleeper theater, local health and social notes, a death notice for Peter Gendrew, and a card of thanks to friends.
The Brainerd High School will hold its second commencement at Sleeper Opera House on Friday evening June 1. Seven graduates, six headed to city schools for fall term, will deliver essays and orations including The House that Jack Built and Not for Revenue Only. The event follows a week of community interest and student achievements.
