St Paul visitors J F Koop and C Co Fife travel for business while 4H member J McCallum moves to room 16 Bleeper block. The rink opens nightly and Frank L Crocker performs with Mabel Davidson. News covers weather, crime, weddings, divorces, church events, and local development including water works hiring and a hotel burglary.
Felix Graham sued Dr. A W Parsons for selling two East Brainerd lots by false pretenses after being told to stop payments due to a mortgage. Judge Douglas refused a local warrant, forcing Graham to seek papers at Fort Ripley where the examination resulted in the defendant’s discharge. Officer Tituson served papers. a jurisdiction dispute over city limits delayed the case.
A large Saturday night gathering at the Opera House organized a Blaine and Logan Club. Officers elected include Col. G. S. Canfield as Chairman and Hon. C. B. Sleeper as President. The event featured speakers on national politics and more than two hundred names were collected for club membership.
Saturday evening features roller skaters Frank L. Crocker and Miss Mabel Davidson in three grand exhibitions. Crocker reprises his popular Dude routine amid praise from the Minneapolis Journal for bold new maneuvers and a laughter filled finale. Admission is 25 cents.
A St. Paul Globe correspondent mocks a Blaine and Logan club dinner at the Opera House calling attendees ignorant and praising the Cleveland and Hendricks effort. He notes only twenty four names enrolled and predicts Democratic ridicule. The piece shows partisan tension ahead of the next election.

Friday evening event at the roller rink raised funds for the National Encampment at Minneapolis. Brainerd community members attended a stage program with music, a color stand donated by Mrs. C. F. Kindred, supper of hard tack and beans, and a social dance postcarding a memorable G A R gathering.
The July 21 1884 meeting of the board of equalization reviewed the City of Brainerd personal list with changes. Names and amounts include E Burnstine 300 C H Douglas 900 on various items J S Gardner 300 on furniture and 700 improved lots Nic ollett House J J Howe Co 2740 manufacturers materials and other adjustments. The board adjourned sine die after four days of sessions.
A rustic maiden primps her appearance for a picnic and contemplates courting a city visitor in a sylvan grove. The poem depicts playful rural charm and flirtatious exchanges as the couple imagines intimate moments amid the countryside setting.
The Dispatch announces enlargement to nine columns with about seven more columns of reading matter. The outside will be printed below for reasons of efficiency and news gathering. The goal is to become the city’s leading paper, priced at $1 50 per issue, unchanged in cost but doubled value.
C. E. Havens governor-general of the Trogs of fice arrived in Woonsocket yesterday morning from Minnesota. He traveled with his mother Mrs L M and his niece Miss Katie Havens of Brainerd. The party plans a month or two stay before returning home.
A petition to disband Co. K. Hartley Guard has circulated with over forty members led by the captain signing. Jack Tidd’s drive arrived earlier this week and awaits a longer behind-due effort. About 12,000,000 feet of logs cut on the upper Mississippi are involved. P Cochran becomes conductor on the Little Falls & Dakota passenger train after two years on the main freight run. The case Leon Houde versus Edward Stone, charging disobedience of a lawful order, was dismissed with costs over $20 assessed to the captain.
The Knox mill started up again on Friday morning for a few days cutting hardwood logs. The Aitkin Band instruments have been heard from and are on the road. Miss Goodspeed travels to Brainerd for a short stay. Mrs. D. M. Terwilliger of Brainerd visits Aitkin with her son and daughter. Mrs. Kelley suffers a serious skating injury at the New Rink last week.

Bills allowed including Smiley Hall Patek Jerrard and others. Committee to negotiate funds to pay orders. Hose house janitor appointed Geo R Perley August 1. Liquor license matters discussed and referred. Grand Army reunion parade draws large crowds with estimates of 15000 in city and 100000 visitors from outside.
Bids opened for 1884 sidewalk and crossing works. Hall & Smiley bid 0.35 per ft for sidewalks and 0.40 for crossings. Bradford & White 0.37 for sidewalks and 0.37 for crossings. J W Brockway 0.28 for sidewalks and 0.38 for crossings with 12 ft sidewalks at 0.50 per ft using 1883 material. conditions on width and material noted. Aldermen declared Brockway bid eligible under specified terms.

C E Smith resigns from the firm and sells his share to A E Losey. Losey will run the undertaker business from the Blue Front on Seventh Street, settle all debts, and collect accounts. Smith moves stock to Blue Front and will pursue undertaker work, upholstering, and picture framing. He asks old creditors to settle promptly. Brainerd July 5 1884.
Crowds began gathering at 8 o'clock as a parade stretched along the line of march for over an hour. Over 7,000 men started, with additions as the procession moved past the West hotel, and total numbers neared 8,000 including 25 bands and 30 drum corps. Augusta, Ga., imposes a $3 daily tax on traveling salesmen in the city.
