Peck’s Biannual Walk With a Peck Bucket Tale
The late President Peck of the Terre Haute and Indianapolis railroad walked twice yearly the distance between Indianapolis and Terre Haute carrying a peck bucket on his arm. He filled it with iron found along the track and dumped the weighty contents near the track for section men to gather. The practice, while good exercise, was likely paving the spigot.
