Mrs Lizzie Shafer Dies of Cerebral Hemorrhage in East Brainerd

Mrs Lizzie Shafer aged about 40 to 50 collapsed after dinner yesterday in East Brainerd. She had a severe morning headache and dizzy spells, died from cerebral hemorrhage with Coroner Reimstad ruling no inquest. She leaves five children, husband absent, funeral set for Sunday at St Francis Church with Rev Father Lynch.

Settlement Achieved in Jones Anaconda Suit

Mrs. Amanda Jones of this city settled her suit against Anaconda Mining Co of Anaconda Montana for 3500 dollars in full for the death of her husband killed on October 14 1899 at the companys smelter. Attorney P J Murphy secured evidence and opposed an initial 800 offer, then 2200 before the final 3500 settlement was accepted. The money will be paid soon. Mrs Jones is a niece of John Parsons of this city.

Gull Lake Bridge Location Confirmed By Settlers

A meeting of Gull Lake bridge subscribers in Brainerd district protested changing the site from the original point, and a resolution supported the initial location. W. H. Hallett represented those favoring the original site and reported to Cass county commissioners. The bridge costs about a thousand dollars with over $300 subscribed by Brainerd merchants, and the rest to be provided by county funds. After construction, subscriber names will be posted on schoolhouses. Two second hand cutters are offered for sale by PD M. Clark Co.
