A fresh invoice arrives announcing Badger State underwear at Westfall’s selling fast. Marketed as finest underwear for rheumatism, the item is emphasized for quick purchase.
The gas light event at Cohen Bros begins Monday December 14 1885 at 9 o clock in the morning and runs all day.
Allen Jordan reports the young Hole-in-the-Day not Ignatius but Joseph Hole-in-the-day, a half brother and son of a white wife, now in Minneapolis. Ignatius travels with a medicine show and may be sent home. Chas. E. Smith buys his brother E. E. M. Smith’s cigar stand at Fifth and Front. E. E. M. will seek warmer climes for health reasons. The cold accelerates lumber camp work. Brainerd remains a hub for winter crews and the spring harvest. More men are expected to be employed this winter than in years past.
Jesse Randall died at his home seven miles north of Brainerd on December 6 1885 from paralysis of the brain. The funeral was held at the Baptist church in Brainerd on December 8 and burial followed in Evergreen cemetery. He was 57 years old and left a wife.

Chief Shontell doubts the girl's welfare with the mother and praises the Duluth arrangement.
Auditor's Office Brainerd Minn fiscal list from December 1885 shows county commissioners Martin and Gardner present after adjournment. Approval of numerous bills includes John Milter road work 10.00, P Mertz jailer fees 55.20, George D Barnard Co books 81.30, Pioneer Press blank books 3.00, Brainerd Dispatch printing 11.05, John Burg pauper supplies 8.15, insurance premium 3 years, and several tax citation and court house items.
Cass county commissioners approve paying 150 dollars to 8 F Alderman for a complete list of deeded lands and taxable lands in Crow Wing Cass and Itasca counties from the St. Cloud Land Office. They grant a road petition from West Brainerd to Long Lake, appoint a committee, and allocate funds for bridges at Grave Lake outlet and Crow Wing Lake outlet. Bids will be invited for 75 cords of wood for the county jail. The board adjourned sine die.
Tank Kee, raised in a Chinese family and ex military officer, will lecture in the city on December 25 26 with a matinee on the 26th. He has lectured across the East and West and is praised for his knowledge of China and its religious life. Proceeds benefit the church.
