Barnums circus set for August 16 with one afternoon show. Night Hawks Burlesque Company to perform at Opera House July 30. Civic notices include a Sunday school picnic at Deerwood and bids on silverware sale at Bank block Sixth Street.
Reports from Brainerd and nearby towns recount visits by W F Malott J E Walter and others for a large ratification gathering. A horse theft near Crow Wing prompts sheriff pursuit. a child obituary notes a 17 year old Pine River death from spinal meningitis.
County commissioners meet with all members present. Bills approved include Archibald Patterson Gray Berg Mahan and Spalding among others. Tax abatements approved for two lots and a loan of 4000 for a poor farm. Board adjourned to 2 pm and later to August.
Preparations for the State Fair are advancing rapidly with Secretary Denny and Superintendent Cross active in promoting events. A mammoth sham battle, planned speakers, high interest in horse and cattle entries, and plans for balloon feats and hurdle races mark a peak year for the Northwest fair.
