Fire damages front bedroom at mayor’s home
Wednesday afternoon a fire at 2115 Stanton across from China Elementary School damaged a front bedroom at Mayor Billy Jack Neal's home. Mrs. Neal grabbed her 2 year old grandson Slade Bracy from a playpen, carried him to the car, and fought the flames with a garden hose until Brady firemen arrived. The child was unhurt despite heavy smoke and flames.

Woman Flees Burning Home With Child After Fire
Mrs Neal reportedly carried a boy from a blazing house to a hospital but doctors found no injuries. The fire burned a carpet hole, set the mattress and box springs afire, and charred the headboard. The cause remained undetermined as the mayor was away.
