Good Samaritan Home in Brady Highlights Community Support

Announcement by the McCulloch County Community Chest outlines nine benevolent agencies including the Good Samaritan Home for the Aged operated by Mrs. Annie Garner at 909 North Davidson St. It notes the home accepts all residents, is state licensed and inspected, and provides 43 rooms with separate wings for men and women, 37 residents, on-site care from trained nurses and a dietitian, daily meals, and Sunday Bible study led by Rev. Fahnstrom.

Hodges Named Head of County ASC Committee

Ben Hodges of Lohn becomes chairman succeeding Theo Lyckman of Brady as the County ASC Committee heads for one year. Ernest Henderson of Voca is vice chairman with John F. Deans of Voca and Jacob W. Mohr of Rochelle as alternates. New member Willard Kyzar of Melvin joins the three seated delegates from Camp, San Saba, Barton, and Rochelle at the convention.

Melvin’s Bulldogs Cancel Friday Football Game

Melvin’s Bulldogs must cancel their Friday matchup with Robert Lee after injuries leave only ten players available. Superintendent Ellington notes both teams have open dates later in the season to potentially reschedule. Three weeks earlier a fire melted helmets and forced a San Angelo replacement trip. Melvin’s next game is October 5 against Eden at Melvin.

Jubilee Float Heads to Waco for Heart of Texas Fair

The Heart O' Texas Jubilee float will travel to Waco for the Heart of Texas Fair parade starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Baylor Tech football fans may visit early and the Fort Worth mounted police lead the parade with Sandra Hargroves, Betty Richie, and Bonnie Brook aboard.

Brady High PTA Hosts Supper and Meeting Tuesday

National Guard Faces Inspection Monday Night at Armory

Brady’s National Guard unit Company C of the 142nd Infantry will endure a federal inspection at the armory Monday night. The drill starts at 7 30 and runs to 10 30 p m with 1st Lt J D Hampton commanding after Capt Narvel Rogers moved to Fort Worth.

Brady native Skipper Howard takes over Brownwood bakery

Ss. J. Skipper Howard, a Brady native and Brownwood High School gridiron standout, has returned to Brownwood to run his mother Mrs. Howard's Bakery. He noted the bakery has served the community for 30 years and pledged to continue delivering its well established products. Howard recently visited Brady to renew acquaintances and expressed pride in his hometown.

High School After-Game Party Invites Friday Night

High schoolers are invited to an after-the-game party at the Country Club Friday night starting about 10 30 p m or when the Brady Coleman game ends. The event ends at midnight with admission reduced to 25 cents per person. The junior high group will have a separate night Saturday at the club from to 11 p.m.

Eden Pioneer Samuel Skinner Dies at 95

Samuel Mitchell Skinner 93, Eden stock farmer and father of Mrs. F. C. Guice of Doole and Mrs. Arch Jacobson of Melvin, died at his Eden home at 2 20 a m Wednesday. Born December 28 1862 in San Antonio he worked as a Schreiner trail driver in Kerrville and lived on his farm near Eden since 1910. Survivors include son Frank M. Skinner of Fort Worth five daughters and a sister. Funeral services were held at 3 p m Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Eden with burial in Eden Cemetery.

The Brady Boosters Club will meet next Monday night Oct. 1 at 7 30 p.m. in the high school band hall. Parents of Junior High and High School band students and others are urged to attend. The Band Boosters provide moral and financial support to the bands which perform at school and civic events.
